Obituary for Evelyn Fern Burbidge (Erhardt)

Evelyn Fern Burbidge (Erhardt)
Evelyn Fern Burbidge, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2016 at 85 years of age. Eve will lovingly be remembered by her children: Sandy Moritz (Immanuel) and Neil Burbidge (Kathleen); her grandchildren: Jennifer Loran (Chris), Matthew Burbidge (Julie), Nelson Burbidge (Christine), and Tasya Moritz; her great-grandchildren: Noah Loran, Izaak Loran, and Abigail Burbidge. She also leaves to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Eve was born on the Erhardt family farm and as she would fondly say “near Govan, Saskatchewan”. Mom loved the hard work of farm life, sharing many happy times with her parents: Frederick and Lydia Erhardt; her siblings: Elmer Erhardt (Luella), Joyce Johnson (Fred) and Elaine Kelln (Ozzie). At twenty, she moved to Medicine Hat where she met her husband Philip Burbidge and they were married July 17th, 1951. Home became the centre of her life, raising her children, baking bread and cookies, and being a great neighbor and friend. As a founding member of Grace Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School and ran the Brownie Pack for many years. When her children were older, she worked at Marshall’s Bookstore and the Monarch Theatre. In the mid-seventies, Eve went to work at Westgarth Gallery, eventually purchasing it and becoming a proud “business woman”. Later, forming a partnership with Neil, they changed the name to Cottonwood Gallery. She enjoyed every day in the store meeting new people and creating lasting friendships. Much to Mom’s joy, she and Sandy spent much time together travelling and exploring the world. As her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came into her life, she dedicated her time and love to them, enormously proud that they grew to be strong and independent. Eve was predeceased by her parents: Frederick and Lydia Erhardt; her husband, Philip Burbidge; and her brother in law, Ozzie Kelln. Cancer impacted her health but not her spirit. Mom lived a long life but she was always young at heart.

And twilight drew its curtain and pinned it with a star.
